New Workshop and Organizing Supplies

New year, new workshop!

I feel like I just did one of these… Yeah, I wasn’t planning on doing another one so soon, but we’re here for another chill post and then back to regular content soon.

The new space still has some work needed both in the organizing and the decorating, but I really like how it’s coming together.

If you have any ideas or suggestions for organizing my workshop space, throw them down in the comments. I love organization tips.

The open floor space has been great for pattern drafting and cutting fabric. I will remain a floor goblin for some time, but I don’t mind it now. Before, I didn’t have enough floor space in the office so I was cutting fabric in the living room.

I put a strip of LED lights on the back of the mirror and I’m dying; I love how it looks! I saw this on Lizard Leigh’s room tour and had to do it myself.

I finally organized and cataloged my patterns, including the ones I’ve drafted and some that I’ve purchased.

I got this idea from the blog Helen’s Closet Patterns: How to organize your patterns using Trello.

I’m still working on organizing the fabric stash, but I’ve started cataloging it. The idea for this came from another post on Helen’s Blog.

I’m pretty jazzed to have space to hang up my pattern blocks and old costumes. But you might notice the pile of fabric on the floor. This is my pile of scrap fabric and old clothing, and frankly, it’s getting out of hand. Last year, a lot of my old clothes started falling apart and I don’t know what to do with it yet.

I like having my desk in front of the window for the sunlight and idle daydreaming opportunities.

Eventually, I’ll set up a dedicated desk for the sewing machines and a peg board on the back wall to hang up tools and stuff. But that’s a future project.

I’ve been into these co-working streams on Twitch lately. People stream themselves working, usually with music playing and people hang out in chat as an accountability buddy. I would recommend it to anyone working from home: just search “cowork” on Twitch and you will find a bunch of people doing it all with different vibes and setups.

Not related to work, but still important, I have my workout equipment and pole set up in my workshop. During work breaks, I like to stretch and do my physio. (Or at least try to. Why is remembering to do physio so hard? If anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears.)

That’s it for now. If you have organization tips or ideas on helping me stay on track with physio, put them down in the comments.

Hope ya’ll are staying cozy this winter.

Ash
