Dancers in Dance Costumes

These costumes were created as a matching set of 2, designed for a performance showcase. The inspiration for these costumes came from 1920s flappers and the use of fringe was specifically requested to really accentuate the movements of the routine.

The two costumes started with a base leotard that purchased and then I hand-stitched sequins and fringe to create this jazzy shimmy look. The challenge with this design was the attachment of non-stretchy embellishments to the lycra leotards. This was accomplished by working in small sections and having the leotard on a mannequin, allowing me to work the extra give into the stitches.
